As the secretariat unit of the Future Africa — China-Africa Vocational Education Cooperation Initiative Results Promotion Working Group, a responsible official from NJUIT's International Education College reported on annual work progress at the Future Africa Initiative Chinese Members Work Promotion Meeting.
In recent years, the national Belt and Road Initiative has accelerated, and China-Africa friendly cooperation has deepened continuously. As the first public vocational undergraduate institution in the country, NJUIT has actively responded to the call of the times and shouldered the mission of national and Jiangsu vocational education development. Leveraging its strengths and distinctive features in vocational education, the university has vigorously developed cooperation with Africa, making concerted efforts in both "bringing in" and "going out." It has given full play to its professional advantages, optimized cooperation mechanisms, and jointly built China-Africa people-to-people exchange brands, achieving remarkable results at multiple levels. The university has not only trained a large number of high-quality technical and skilled professionals for African countries but also opened up broad avenues for China-Africa vocational education exchange and cooperation, promoting people-to-people exchanges and mutual understanding between China and Africa, and better serving the development of bilateral relations.
Since 2018, NJUIT has cooperated with DHET and LGSETA to actively carry out the Study and Internship Program in China for South African Students, receiving 128 students from South Africa in three cohorts. In 2023, under the guidance of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, the Foreign Affairs Office of Jiangsu Provincial People's Government, and DHET, NJUIT took the lead in establishing the Jiangsu-South Africa Vocational College Principals Alliance. The alliance brings together 11 universities from Jiangsu and 8 from South Africa, creating an important exchange platform for vocational institutions in both countries. In 2024, the Jiangsu-Africa Vocational Education Cooperation Exchange Meeting was successfully held in Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia. At the meeting, NJUIT's South Africa Branch was officially inaugurated. The university also signed a China-Africa vocational education cooperation memorandum with AAUTIC and a new energy vehicle industry vocational training cooperation memorandum with the Federal Technical and Vocational Education and Training Institute of Ethiopia. In the same year, the annual meeting of the Jiangsu-South Africa Vocational College Principals Alliance and the "Study in Jiangsu" Education Exhibition were successfully held in Pretoria, South Africa, and the Future Africa Initiative Youth Camp opened at NJUIT. This year, the launch ceremony of the China-South Africa International Scholarship Program and the 2025 opening ceremony were successfully held at NJUIT. More than 200 South African students received the China-South Africa International Scholarship to study in China. In recognition of these efforts, the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, AAUTIC, and DHET-LGSETA sent letters of appreciation.
